When did The Great kindness Challenge start?
When McManigal and Danielle Gram created the concept for Kids for Peace in 2006, their goal was to focus on local children and showcasing their acts of kindness. In their first year, the nonprofit started in three Carlsbad elementary schools — Jefferson, Hope and Kelly.
How did the Great kindness Challenge start?
In 2011, the elementary school that Jill’s children attended asked Kids for Peace to help create a more positive, unified and respectful school environment. As a result, The Great Kindness Challenge was designed and piloted with three Carlsbad, California schools. As kindness becomes a habit, peace becomes possible.

In the 2020 Great Kindness Challenge, over 15 million students in 28,000 schools committed 750 million kindness across 115 countries. We’re proud to support such an effective and powerful program!
