What coating is used for sublimation?
Printing with sublimation only works on products coated with a polyurethane coating. Once coated, images can be imprinted by means of sublimation transfer. This coating can be applied to products such as ceramic mugs which is something we have perfected in our wheelhouse of sublimation products and services.
What is Digicoat?
Digi Coat™ is the only do-it-yourself sublimation coating solution designed to enable sublimation decoration on a wide range of surfaces, such as ceramic, wood, slate, and even stone. With Digi Coat you can sublimate onto dark, or black substrates, and it also protects against U.V degradation.
Can you sublimate on any ceramic tile?
Sublimation only works on polyester or polyester coated substrates. I have found quite a few resources that sell sublimation blanks, and most sell tiles. The tiles I am using today are from Coastal Business . I have also discovered a poly spray that you can apply to a tile purchased at Home Depot.
Do you have to seal sublimation tumblers?
No! Tumblers that have been printed with a sublimation transfer do not need to be sealed. The sublimation ink is embedded in the material of the tumbler during the heating process.
Can you coat a tumbler for sublimation?
Unfortunately you can’t just use any tumblers for sublimation. As with all the other sublimation projects, you need to use compatible sublimation blanks that contain a specialized poly coating that interacts with the sublimation dye when heat is applied. There are also different types of sublimation tumblers.
What is polymer coating?
Polymer coatings are thin layers of polymer applied to either flat substrates or irregular objects. Polymeric coatings can be functional (adhesives, photographic films), protective (anticorrosion), or decorative (paint). They are also used to modify surfaces (paper coatings, hydrophobic coatings).
Do you have to use special mugs for sublimation?
Keep in mind you must use mugs that have a special coating for sublimation printing. These mugs are specially coated in a factory. You cannot coat them yourself.
Can you use Cricut infusible ink on ceramic tiles?
Note that Infusible Ink does require a sublimation surface. This will not work with ceramic tiles from your home improvement store. Add the side of the paper that was drawn on by the Cricut to the top side of each coaster. Use heat-resistant tape to secure each piece into place.
Do you have to epoxy a sublimation tumbler?
No epoxy or glitter is needed! That’s it…a whole lot easier than adding glitter to a sublimation tumbler in a totally separate step…or two.
