What are the guru lands?
A little while back, Wizards of the Coast offered a promotion to encourage people to teach their friends to play Magic: the Guru program. Included as giveaways were five basic lands illustrated by Terese Nielsen. The lands — called Guru lands — show five stages of a “double eclipse.”
Why are Mtg guru lands so expensive?
Basically, because supply was very very small, even when they were given out originally, and demand is very high. They are considered the “best” basic lands (because the art is very well done, and because they are so rare), and thus appeal to Vintage and Legacy players who enjoy pimping out their decks.
