Is Yamaha better than Evinrude?
Both of these popular outboard brands are tough to beat. On one hand, the Evinrude has lower maintenance and will exude lower environmentally hazardous emissions. Yamahas, in comparison, are known as the most reliable motors that have been around for 30+ years.

What kind of gas does Evinrude ETEC take?
All Evinrude engines are two-strokes and have an onboard two-stroke oil tank that has a capacity of 3 gallons. They run on 87-octane fuel. Evinrude sells the motors with a five-year warranty on the engine and against corrosion.
Is the E-TEC engine worth it?
When compared to the old engine, that old cross flow V4 was strong and a pre AF model 75/90HP will go about the same, whereas if you can find a good second hand AF or newer 90HP it would go better. All the E-TEC engines will use a heap less fuel and be a much nicer engine to use on a day’s boating.
What is the performance difference between the I-3 and E-TEC?
Simply put if earlier than the AF models the performance difference between the two I-3 E-TEC was very little. AF and latter model 90HP I-3 with the S2 gearcase do perform a fair bit better than their smaller 75HP brother of the same model.
Should I get the a 75 or a 90?
A 75 was an option for me but I went with the 90 and have no regrets. Compared to carbed engine, there is already a noticeable fuel savings after just 1 fill up. Performance is now better at low end but a bit less on the top end but still very acceptable.
