How are juvenile detention centers funded?
Traditionally, juvenile justice systems’ funding is entirely dependent upon what the state or government can allocate based on available funds from various taxes. Counties in both California and Florida have including enacting local taxes to fund their youth programming.
Who receives formula grants?
Formula grant funds are appropriated by Congress and awarded by OJJDP to the 50 States, 5 territories, and the District of Colum- bia (hereafter referred to as States) on the basis of their propor- tionate population under age 18.
What does the OJJDP do?
OJJDP provides national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to youth delinquency and victimization. The Office helps states, localities, and tribes develop effective and equitable juvenile justice systems that create safer communities and empower youth to lead productive lives.
Do you have to apply for formula grants?
Formula grants are funding programs that you do not compete for, even though you must submit an application and meet other specified requirements. They ensure that designated recipients will receive funds, and are usually administered and managed by State Administering Agencies.
