Does UMaine have an honors program?
The Honors College considers all first year students who apply to UMaine for membership in Honors. Invitations to selected students will start being sent in December of each year and will continue on a rolling basis throughout the application period. We have faculty in Honors from all different disciplines.
How many credits do you need to graduate UMaine?
Students must have a minimum total of 120 degree hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better overall and in the courses in the major field that are required for completion of the major. Students must also meet all UMaine general education requirements.
Can you double major at UMaine?
Double majors are possible within a single baccalaureate degree. Both majors may be within the same college, or they may be in different colleges. Students may complete two different majors simultaneously with no prescribed increase in total credits beyond those required to satisfy both majors.
Is honors college hard?
No, Honors courses aren’t graded harder (or any easier!) than other college courses. A student who averages a 3.6 in regular courses will probably have a 3.6 GPA for Honors courses too.
Is it worth doing Honors College?
College honors programs can be a lot of work, but for many students, they’re worth the effort and academic challenge. Although honors programs are more focused on academics, they also offer exceptional extracurricular activities, research opportunities, and valuable alumni networks.
What is the difference between an honors college and a regular college?
In many high schools Honors courses are just the normal courses “made harder” with extra readings, extra assignments, and extra hard grading of students. But at college, Honors courses are specially “enriched” courses, not normal courses made “harder,” and grading standards are the same as in normal college courses.
What is the point of honors College?
An honors program is designed to offer high-achieving students an opportunity to dive into their studies more thoroughly than they may in regular classes. A small group of admitted students is selected for the program, and honors programs exist at both public and private universities.
