Can photocells be used with LEDs?

What is a photocell light?
Photocells are sensors that allow you to detect light. They are small, inexpensive, low-power, easy to use and don’t wear out. They are often referred to as CdS cells (they are made of Cadmium-Sulfide), light-dependent resistors (LDR), and photoresistors.

How long does it take a photocell to turn on?
Depending on the photo cell it’s going to take about 30 seconds for the photo cell to show on. If the photo cell and control circuitry is functioning properly, and therefore the light bulbs are good the fixture should illuminate .
Will a photocell work in the shade?
A: Works quite well… I had to move mine to a shaded area because when the lights came on it was so sinsitive they would turn off detecting the light.
How long does a photocell last?
If your light burns continuously, then the photocell has gone bad, and the entire unit should be replaced. The life span depends on how often and long it is turned on, but mine usually will last upwards of 10 years, or more.
Do LED lights flicker when cold?
If you’ve noticed that your LED lights are flickering when the temperature drops, this is probably because part of the bulbs’ internal components has frozen. This is why LEDs make great flood lights, street lights, and decorative lights in cold climates.

This controller is designed for use with specific outdoor lights and is mounted to a connector already installed at the top of the light fixture itself. It will not plug into an electrical outlet. There are specific photocell switches that can be used in conjunction with your post light.
