Is Meteor Crater worth seeing?
Yes it is just a big hole in the ground. But what a nice meteor crater. The drive to it is beautiful, the crater is cool and the museum and gift shops are better than expected. If you are interested in geology and/or astronomy, it is well worth the trip.
Is Sunset Crater worth seeing?
Sunset Crater Volcano may not be for everyone. You probably need to be a bit of a science nerd to truly appreciate it. For a non-sciencey person it is a nice park with great paths and cool scenery.

Can you walk down into Meteor Crater?
We do not permit our guests to hike down to the bottom of the Crater, primarily for safety reasons. Also, scientific research is being conducted inside the Crater on a year-round basis. There are 3 lookout points with spectacular views of the Crater. There are also great views if you take one of our guided rim tours.
Are dogs allowed at Meteor Crater AZ?
While pets are not permitted inside the Meteor Crater facility or when hiking outside or on one of our guided rim tours, we do have a dog run located right off the parking lot. Also, if you have a kennel for your dog, we will make every effort to accommodate your dog inside to the right of the Admissions area.
